As the Associate Director of Finance and Administration at the National Zoo, Carol Fiertz is responsible for assisting the director in the overall planning, development, direction, and management of several of the Zoo’s programs and administrative activities.
Before joining the Zoo, Fiertz served as the Chief of Outreach Technologies at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History (NMNH). In this capacity, she was part of the team that launched the NMNH Ocean Portal, Human Origins website, and the first Smithsonian mobile application.
Fiertz has more than 14 years of federal experience at the Peace Corps, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, and the Federal Communications Commission, where she served in a variety of administrative and technical positions. Before joining the federal government, she worked at Morgan Stanley in New York, Tokyo, and Zurich.
Fiertz earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Middlebury College and a master’s in international studies from the Paul Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.
