Amazonia Science Gallery
Join the National Zoo and the National Museum of Natural History on November 15 for International GIS Day.
This is the eighth straight year that the Smithsonian's GIS (Geographic Information System) community is participating in International GIS Day.
Everyone is invited to this exciting, informal event.
- Meet GIS research scientists and see their demonstrations, posters, maps, videos, computer displays and interactives, and career information.
- Experience the new technology of PORTALS with examples from tropical ecosystems at the Amazon Portal at the National Zoo and marine ecosystems at the National Museum of Natural History’s new Ocean Portal.
- See animal tracking, regional mapping and animated cartographic displays of global volcanism and earthquakes.
- Take home materials about GIS, and learn about mapping tropical environments, animal movements, Earth’s seismic activity, and other Smithsonian research programs on display at the Amazonia Science Gallery.
The Amazonia Science Gallery is located near Beaver Valley and Kids' Farm.
