What is the date and time of Night of the Living Zoo?

The event will be held on Wednesday, October 30th, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.

What is included?

General admission tickets include:

  • Zoo access during the witching hours
  • After hours access to the Small Mammal House, Great Ape House, Reptile Discovery Center and Think Tank
  • Live (undead?) entertainment: The Cheeky Monkey Sideshow, Clara Voyant and the Bearded Ladies.
  • Face painting
  • Photo booth by Photo-matica
  • Costume contest
  • Carousel rides for $3 per ride
  • 14-person, pedal-powered, pub-crawling trolley rides by The Trolley Pub
  • Food & drink are available for purchase, including beer by Sam Adams, special cocktails by Sweetshine, and the DC Slices and Cirque Cuisine food trucks

VIP Ticketholders can party the night away in the VIP Zombie Lounge:

  • Exclusive access to our primo VIP area in Invertebrates
  • Heavy hors d'oeuvres provided by Meridian Pint and Smoke and Barrel
  • Private animal demonstration
  • 2 Tickets for Adult "elixirs"
  • Free Parking

Will the Zoo be open?

Outside the event area, the buildings will be open until 6 p.m. and the grounds will be open until 8 p.m. The buildings in the event area will be closed.

Will there be animals at the event?

There will be after-hours access to the Small Mammal House, Great Ape House, Reptile Discovery Center and Think Tank. The Invertebrates house will be open after hours for VIP ticketholders. Animal Demonstrations will take place in the invertebrates house
Please remember the welfare of the animal is our priority, so animal demonstrations may be canceled if it is in the best interest of the animal.

Online tickets are sold out. Can I still purchase tickets at the gate?

Yes!

Are concessions available?

Yes, food and beverages will be available for purchase. There will be a several food trucks as well as food carts. Credit cards are accepted at many, but not all of the food trucks. ATMs are located inside the Zoo at the Visitor Center and Mane Restaurant.

Will the carousel be operating?

Yes! The carousel will be open during the event. Tickets to ride the carousel are $3 each.

Is there a charge for parking?

Yes. Discounted parking is available via Parking Panda. We encourage guests to pre-pay for parking to ensure a spot.

If available, parking the night of the event will be $15 for FONZ members and $20 for nonmembers.

Friends of the National Zoo encourages you to use public transportation and drink responsibly. To visit the Zoo by Metro, take the Red Line to the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan stop or the Cleveland Park stop. The Zoo entrance lies halfway between these stops, and both are a short walk from the Zoo. Get details about taking Metro to the Zoo

Catch a ride to and from the Woodley Park/Zoo Metro Station, courtesy of Zipcar. The shuttle runs every 20 minutes throughout the night.

Do I need photo ID?

Yes, photo ID is required. Guests must be 21-and-over. Individuals under 21 will not be admitted into the event site.

Can I buy Group Tickets?

Night of the Living Zoo is a fundraising event and we do not offer group ticket rates. FONZ members may purchase up to six tickets at the member price.

Where is the Event Located in the Zoo?

Night of the Living Zoo will be located in the middle portion of the Zoo between Small Mammal House and the Carousel. The Small Mammal House is about a 10 minute walk from the top of the zoo. There will be two registration locations; one will be by the Small Mammal House, the other will be at the bottom of the zoo by the clock tower across from the Harvard Street Bridge.
