Throughout April, we invite you to celebrate giant pandas at the National Zoo.
We'll kick off Panda Month on April 4 at 11 a.m. Come to the Asia Trail deck (home to the panda sculpture and near the bridge to the Bird House) overlooking the Fujifilm Giant Panda Habitat to hear a panda expert talk about our special bears.
Volunteer interpreters will have lots to tell you about giant pandas, their habitat in China, special adaptations, and more. Learn from our interpreters every Saturday and Sunday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. inside the Fujifilm Giant Panda Habitat. You can also meet a behavior watch volunteer in the observation room every Saturday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Visit the Panda Information Booth on Olmsted Walk to register to win a basket full of great panda merchandise and gifts.
This year, Friends of the National Zoo celebrates its 50th birthday. We encourage kids to wish us a happy birthday by making a card with a drawing of their favorite panda. Your card may be featured on our website and displayed at the Zoo too! Plus, all kids who give us a card and an email address will receive an e-certificate for their contribution. (Kids, be sure to get a parent's or guardian's permission. We will not use your email address for any other purpose.)
Cards should be 5x7 folded and include a panda illustration. Drop off your card at the Zoo’s Visitor Center information desk or mail it to:
