Learn about simple daily actions the Zoo is taking to be more environmentally friendly.

MEET THE NATIONAL ZOO'S SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE

Learn about the many green achievements at the National Zoo from members of its Sustainability Committee. You'll hear about green design in exhibits and buildings, environmental practices in the Zoo's food services and gift shops, as well as sustainability initiatives to conserve water and energy, and reduce waste. You can also get information about the Sustainability Committee's Self-Guided Green Tour through Asia Trail.

Recycle Your Cell Phone

Bring cell phones to recycle to stations in the Visitor Center.

Party for the Planet

There is no better way to celebrate Earth Day than with the planet’s amazing and diverse wildlife. More than 100 of the top zoos and aquariums across North America (including the National Zoo) are throwing the 7th Annual Party for the Planet™—the largest combined Earth Day celebration in North America!

Plant a Plant

State Farm® volunteers will assist kids of all ages in making their world a little greener by creating biodegradable plant pots made out of recycled newspaper. Kids will be able to pot their own plant to take home and watch it grow.

Make a Garden Journal

State Farm® volunteers will assist kids in creating their own garden journal. Kids can make and decorate a journal to record their plans for their own backyard garden, draw pictures, record the weather and track how their garden grows.

Ledo Pizza Gifts and Giveaways

Ledo Pizza will be on hand with gifts and delicious pizza samples! Ledo Pizza sponsors the Pizza Playground at the Kids' Farm exhibit and will help celebrate Earth Day and Kids' Farm month with special giveaways.

Chef Remmi Cooking Demonstration

Meet Chef Remmi! Remmi Smith is the web and television host of the health based cooking show "Cook Time with Remmi" and Sodexo's Youth Ambassador for Health and Wellness. Don't miss Chef Remmi's cooking demos at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. inside the Picnic Pavillion! She will be making and sampling strawberry salsa and sweet summer corn succotash.

Starbucks Demonstration and Sampling

Starbucks Coffee Company will be on hand to distribute coffee grounds and talk about composting in your backyard garden! Starbucks will also sample drinks for our guests.
