Join preeminent National Zoo animal keepers, veterinarians, reproductive scientists, and FONZ volunteers for an evening dedicated to helping Asian elephants here at the Zoo!
Get behind-the-scenes information and the latest details about the Zoo’s Elephant Trails project. Hear what it’s like to work with our three elephants—Ambika, Shanthi, and Kandula. Listen to experts describe what it’s like to give a 6,000-pound-animal a check-up or figure out how best to conduct an elephant artificial insemination.
One-hundred percent of this event’s proceeds will go toward helping the Zoo’s herd of Asian elephants—specifically to purchase enrichment objects for our elephants. Environmental enrichment enhances the elephants' well-being. It involves providing environments for Zoo animals that stimulate their natural behaviors and give them the chance to exercise control over and make choices about their environment.
| $15 for FONZ members $20 for nonmembers |

At the beginning of the year, a group of Friends of the National Zoo volunteers came together to help raise money for the Zoo’s Asian elephants. These “elephant ambassadors” have worked on a variety of projects all year to raise money and awareness for these incredible animals. An Evening for Elephants is the culminating event of an exciting year!
