Playtime for Kandula
Kandula, the Zoo's elephant calf, needs more durable toys than your average youngster.

One of his favorite toys is a sturdy plastic box.

He enjoys manipulating it,

flipping it over,
standing on it and rocking back and forth—a pretty impressive display of balance—and banging it around to make a lot of noise.
This block, a swinging tire, and other objects give Kandula and the other elephants a variety of ways to exercise their brains and muscles—including tens of thousands of trunk muscles.
