2006 Butterfly Survey Observations

The summer 2006 butterfly surveys for the Washington, D.C., area and Clarke County, Virginia, have been completed. A summary of the data is presented here along with maps showing where participants conducted surveys. If you participated, you can see how your observations compare with those of other participants. Graphs show the the most frequently seen butterflies and species richness relative to distance from the Washington Monument.

As we continue collecting data, we will learn more about the diversity of butterflies in the region and see how populations vary over time, with the type of backyard, and by the degree of development in the area.
