Thanks to everyone who cast a vote to name the female brown kiwi that hatched at the National Zoo on June 15. This is the second female kiwi to hatch at the Zoo at this year. The first kiwi to hatch outside of New Zealand hatched here in 1975.
In honor of the kiwi’s native New Zealand homeland, we offered three Maori names from which to choose. The Maori are the native people of New Zealand.
The vote ended at 12 p.m. on October 15. We'll announce the winning name at 2 p.m. on the
kiwi cam!
We will also contact the randomly chosen winner of the behind-the-scenes tour to meet the newly named chick.
