The National Zoo's giant panda Mei Xiang gave birth to a cub at 3:41 a.m. on July 9, 2005. From the very beginning, Mei showed signs of being a great mother. In this picture taken from the web cam on July 10, Mei is seen holding the tiny hairless and helpless cub.
