Updates From the Zoo's Lion Keepers
June 4
Thank you for all of the thoughts and condolences after the loss of Naba’s cub. We’re happy to say that Naba has returned to her old self, and is enjoying the company of Shera and Luke again. After a lioness loses her cubs, she typically comes back into heat quickly, and Naba was no exception. She came into heat at the end of May and was seen breeding with Luke starting on June 3. If Naba becomes pregnant again, her cub(s) would be due mid-September.
Believe it or not, we have more news to share! Shera also bred with Luke, during the second week of May. If she’s pregnant, her cubs would be due late August. It will be a while before we can determine if either Naba or Shera are pregnant because they may experience a pseudo-pregnancy (false pregnancy), which lasts about 48 days. Stay tuned for more updates.
