Adopt a litter of lion cubs!
November 12
Naba's seven-week-old cubs took their swim test today in the moat of one of the lion exhibits, just as Shera's cubs did on October 26. This was one of the steps we needed to take in preparation for their time outside. We wanted to make sure that they could swim in case any of them end up in the moat when they're outside with their parents later this year. We were all really pleased with how it went. All of the cubs instinctively turned toward land to get out, and the second cub was able to get out entirely on his own. The other two needed just a little help but we think they'll soon be strong enough to get out on their own.
In indoor news, Shera, Naba, and all of their cubs are now together around the clock except when the mothers go outside. All of the lions are now spending the night in the enclosures next to Luke. The next addition to this pride of nine will be Luke! Stay tuned to hear how introductions go.
