September 29

Yesterday morning Naba started showing an interest in stretching her legs beyond the cubbing dens and shifted over to visit Luke and Shera with enthusiasm.

Later in the afternoon, she looked ready for a little break again and she enjoyed shredding up a bunch of cardboard boxes with Shera (a favorite activity for the girls, although Naba isn’t nearly as destructive as Shera). After they lost interest in the boxes, we decided to see if they had any interest in going outside for a bit. Both were happy to go out and enjoy some fresh air for about an hour or so.

This hour gave us the chance to clean out the nest box in Naba’s outer den, and also gave us the chance to get a quick visual of all seven cubs. It looks like at least one of Naba’s cubs has opened its eyes, and even gave us a little “hiss” while we were working. We also checked the weights of Shera’s cubs, now ranging from about 10.5 to 11.5 pounds!
