Milk
Cows that we raise for milk are called dairy cows. Most of them are the same breed (or kind) of cow: Holstein.
Cheese
Cheese was first made more than 5,000 years ago. There are more than 1,500 different kinds of cheese made from the milk of cows, goats, sheep, and other animals.
Special feet
Their feet are called hooves, which have two toes on each hoof.
Wild cousins
Cows are in
the Bovidae family, which includes gazelles, antelope, buffaloes, and bison, as well as sheep and goats. At the National Zoo, you can see
dama gazelles and
scimitar-horned oryx.
