Costa's Hummingbird

This hummingbird lives in the desert of the Southwest and northwestern Mexico. Researchers have found that the Costa's hummingbird can lower its body temperature and slow its heart rate from 500 to 900 times per minute to about 50 times per minute when nighttime temperatures are low.
