Short-tailed Fruit Bat More than 1,000 of the world's 4,600 species of mammals are bats. The largest has a wingspan of more than six feet; the smallest weighs just two grams. Bats play key roles in controlling insect populations, pollinating flowers, and spreading seeds. The Zoo no longer exhibits bats, but you can see many other small mammals in the Small Mammal House. |
