There are now 88 species of living lemurs, many of which are endangered. This is largely due to
deforestation of Madagascar, a large island off the southeast coast of Africa and the only place lemurs live. They are also hunted and trapped for the pet
trade and food.
The Madagascar Fauna Group, comprised of zoos and other related organizations, works to conserve lemurs, other Madagascar wildlife, and their habitat.
