Boa constrictor One of the boa constrictor's favorite meals is bats. The snake catches this flying prey by hanging from trees and grabbing the bats out of the air. The boa can then constrict the bats as it would any other prey—usually birds and rodents. Boa constrictors are a particularly large species of snake, averaging 13 feet in length. The largest recorded boa was 18 feet long.
