By MSA 2005 Map showing rocky, open grasslands habitats in southern Africa

Class Reptilia
Order: Squamata
Family: Cordylidae
Genus and species: Gerrhosaurus validus
When danger threatens, this lizard hides in the cracks. It crawls into a rocky crevice and fills its lungs with air, wedging itself in. A groove along each side of the body enables this heavily armored lizard to expand.
