Cornsnake

By MSA 2005 Map showing temperate forests, grasslands habitats in southeastern United States

Taxonomy:

Class Reptilia
Order: Squamata
Family: Colubridae
Genus and species: Elaphe guttata
Cornsnakes come in shades of brown and orange—colors that provide effective camouflage among dead leaves. Their bellies are checkered like kernels of Indian corn, which is probably how they got their name.
