False water cobra

By MSA 2005 Map showing open scrub, cactus woodland, near water habitats in eastern South America

Class Reptilia
Order: Squamata
Family: Colubridae
Genus and species: Hydrodynastes gigas
Venom from this rear-fanged snake is not as potent as that from a front-fanged cobra. But the false water cobra intimidates like the real thing, when it flattens its head and neck, spreading its hood.
