Radiated tortoise

By MSA 2005 Map showing dry scrub forests and woodlands habitats in southern Madagascar

Class Reptilia
Order: Chelonia
Family: Testudinidae
Genus and species: Geochelone radiata
Colored lines on this tortoise’s shell form a striking star pattern. But because it makes a tasty dinner, and because its habitat is disappearing, the radiated tortoise has vanished from many areas. Continued harvesting may lead to its extinction.
