Komodo dragon bites!
February 4, 2005

"Murphy", our 2 year old male Komodo dragon, was allowed access to a whole calf leg as part of an experiment to note and measure the marks Komodo teeth make on animal bones.

It is hoped that by studying the tooth marks left on the bone, scientists will gain a better understanding of how some dinosaurs fed on their prey. Komodo dragons are unique among reptiles in having teeth that are similar to dinosaurs, for example, the Allosaurus fragilis.

Scientists hope to compare the Komodo dragon bite marks to those on fossilized bones.
