Celebrate and Protect Endangered Species
May 20 is Endangered Species Day. The Zoo is home to many endangered species, giving our visitors the opportunity to learn how fascinating they are and what threatens them. Our scientists are working to conserve a lot of endangered species here at the Zoo, at the Zoo's Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, Virginia, and around the world. Here are just a few of the endangered species the Zoo is striving to save from extinction.
