Cards for Creatures Winner
A winner has been chosen for the Cards for Creatures contest, which celebrated new moms at the National Zoo and its Conservation and Research Center in Front Royal, Virginia. We received more than 300 creative entries from 39 states.
We are happy to announce our winner is nine-year-old Amber Rock from Long Beach, California. Amber's multi-textured winning card featured the Bali mynah, flamingo, giant panda, and Panamanian golden frog. She included a pop-up inside her card and a conservation message: Without Earth or Moms, life would not be possible.
For Mother's Day, Amber and her family will come to Washington, D.C., courtesy of American Airlines, and stay at the fabulous Four Seasons hotel. On Mother's Day, they will receive a special tour of the Zoo highlighting our new animal mothers. Amber's mother will also receive a Fujifilm FinePix Digital Camera, an Animal Planet gift bag, a Four Seasons spa treatment, a floral arrangement from Organic Bouquet, and a DVD of the motion picture Dr. Doolittle 3.
Congratulations also to our runner-up: 12-year-old Kathryn Evans, from Silver Spring, Maryland. Kathryn illustrated a beautiful card featuring the new animal moms at the Zoo's Best Mom of the Year Contest. Kathryn will receive a Zoo gift bag.
All contestants will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the month.
