The Winner Has Been Chosen

This past fall, the National Zoo invited kids across America to design posters. We asked the young artists to remind people that the Zoo is always free and engages in important conservation work. More than 450 kids, aged eight to 14, answered our call. Their entries were wonderfully creative, and choosing a winner was both a delight and a challenge.

At the Opening Night of ZooLights on December 4, we unveiled the winning poster, created by 14-year-old Steven Ostuni of Rockville, Maryland. The poster, shown below, will be printed and displayed at the Zoo's Mane Restaurant during ZooLights—along with the runner-up and honorable mentions (named below)—and sent to libraries and schools in our region. We hope you’ll enjoy them—and remember that the Zoo is a national treasure.
