Bird Fest 2008 begins with a lecture and book signing by Bridget Stutchbury, passionate researcher, leading expert on migratory birds, and author of Silence of the Songbirds. In her presentation, entitled "Migratory Songbirds: Canaries in the Mine?", she will follow songbirds to their wintering grounds in Latin America and back to their breeding grounds in North America to understand what challenges they face along the way.
She’ll also explain why so many of our beloved songbirds are threatened by factors such as habitat loss and pesticides, and how we can all make the world safer for songbirds. The book signing and talk will take place at the National Zoo Visitor Center Auditorium starting at 7 p.m.
Bridget Stutchbury is a professor of biology at York University in Toronto.
