How You Can Help

You can contribute to the golden lion tamarin conservation program or the conservation of the other lion tamarins by contributing to the Lion Tamarins of Brazil Fund.

The Lion Tamarins of Brazil Fund (LTBF) was established to support Brazilian conservation programs for the lion tamarins through contributions from zoos exhibiting and holding lion tamarins in their collections and the general public. These funds are used exclusively to support field projects in Brazil and are distributed annually. The LTBF supports Brazilian field researchers, surveys, censuses, behavioral and ecological studies, translocations/reintroductions, public education, reforestation and land acquisition. We see this fund as an important mechanism allowing zoos to link their scientifically managed captive breeding programs for endangered species with meaningful in-situ conservation programs for remnant wild populations of lion tamarins and their habitats.

Twenty-five percent of the annual collection is distributed to conservation programs for each of the four lion tamarin species. If you wish to make a contribution to the conservation program of a specific lion tamarin, please specify which species (golden lion tamarin, golden-headed lion tamarin, black lion tamarin, or black-faced lion tamarin).
