Capacity Building Through Professional Training Courses
At the center of MAB's capacity building initiative is its professional training courses. MAB has trained professionals, including resource managers, educators, decision-makers, and scientists, in the United States, Vietnam, China, India, Taiwan, Japan, most Latin American countries, the Caribbean Islands, Canada, and in the African nations of Gabon, Nigeria, and Cameroon through professional training courses. MAB employs the assistance of highly qualified instructors from multiple disciplines and backgrounds to teach all of the training courses.
MAB currently offers two annual professional training courses for international educators, scientists, resource managers, and policy-makers. A three-week Biodiversity Course—most recently held in spring 2005—focuses on creating and maintaining effective monitoring and assessment of biodiversity programs, while the two-week Environmental Leadership Course empowers individuals and provides the skills needed to promote change for conservation. MAB also conducts periodic regional courses that offer specific training for a geographical region. Please contact MAB if you are interested in the development of a regional course.
