Effective Leadership and Communication Tools for Environmental Management and Conservation
We are not currently offering this course.
This course will provide participants with the knowledge and understanding of the communication and leadership capacities of environmental leaders, decision makers, and business executives. It provides a working knowledge of the fundamental communication, program management, and strategic planning skills needed to be an effective environmental leader. The course integrates social and management skills with fundamental conservation issues globally.
Now more than ever, scientists and conservationists agree that a pressing need of humanity in the 21st century is to develop a greater understanding of the ecological and human consequences of biodiversity loss and the communication, management and leadership approaches to revert this process. Given these enormous challenges, there is an urgent need for universities, zoos, natural history museums, governments, and non-governmental organizations to collectively pool their expertise, specialized facilities, and their international network of partners to educate and endow current and future generations with the specialized skills needed to provide environmental management leadership for conservation.
Our focus will be on providing leadership tools, behaviors, strategies and concepts modeled from outstanding leaders and environmental managers in many fields, and applied to solving environmental and conservation problems nationally and internationally. The overall instructional framework is based on many well recognized tools and readings that include personal development skills, team skills, strategic planning and implementation skills and system and organization skills.
The primary goal of this course is to provide participants with a fundamental knowledge of relevant approaches and methodologies and how they are being integrated and applied nationally and internationally. A second goal is to provide course participants with skills in collaborative stakeholder consultation processes and cross-cultural learning from peers around the world.
