Zoom Features

The shot was taken in the early morning after sunrise. This owl lives in a nest-box for wood ducks near a farm complex. Gerhard tried to use a tape of the call of a screech owl to lure it in for a perferct shot, but the bird didn't respond very well.

So he observed the bird for a few evenings and found out that it perches at least once or twice on an old tree branch when it leaves the nest.

As the weather gets warmer it seems to respond better to the taped calls so he will try this approach during the next shootings (he would like it to sit on a perfect oak branch hanging over the river).
