Preschool Classes

These programs invite adults and young children todiscover the Zoo together. All children must be accompanied by an adult who is prepared to take part in the activities. For everyone's safety and enjoyment, unregistered children including siblings may not attend, with the exception of infants who are not yet crawling. more

A 75-percent refund will be issued if notification is received by the FONZ membership office via email, fax, or mail at least two weeks prior to the start of the class. No refunds or changes will be made thereafter.

Where the Wild Things Are

A wonderful world unfolds in this five-day investigation of the animal kingdom. Each day, study a different type of animal, including mammals, birds, and reptiles, and learn about the wild places they inhabit. Dig, swim, climb, and fly with us in our journey around the world!

Swingin’ Safari

There’s no need for a passport when you can explore the savanna at the National Zoo! Take part in crafts and games as you learn about African animals and culture. We’re not lion, it’s going to be a wild time!

Heads or Tails

In this class we'll examine animals part by part, beginning at the head and ending with tails, to understand how each part helps the whole animal survive.

Animal Sensations

This is so much more than “one, singular sensation,” it’s five! All animals have keen senses that help them survive in a dangerous world. Some have a great sense of smell; some can feel with their whiskers. Come explore “sensational” animals with your five senses and learn what it means to “see” with your nose or “hear” with your hairs.

Monkey Mania

It’s a primate party and you’re invited! Prosimians, monkeys, and apes, the gang’s all here! What are the differences among human relatives, large and small? Visit the greatest apes and the smallest monkeys and make special treats that primates—like you—can eat, too.

Counting Critters

How do we love the Zoo? Let us count the ways! Get a jump on preschool skills as we use math to learn about animals. Crafts, activities, and animals certainly add up to a fun day at the Zoo!

Moo at the Zoo

You’re invited to have a moo-arvelous time! Come celebrate The Kids’ Farm, sponsored by State Farm® with a month of pigs, cow, alpacas and more! We’re going to have sow much fun learning what it takes to be a farmer and enjoying special farm themed activities. Join the herd and sign up now!

Old MacDonald Had a Zoo

Hay there! Have you herd the news? Old MacDonald doesn’t own just a farm, but an entire Zoo! Learn about life on a farm at the Kids’ Farm, Sponsored by State Farm® and visit some of his other, more wild, animals. We’re singing songs and making crafts as we E-I-E-I-O our way through the park!

Colorful Critters

No need to look to the skies, we’ve got a rainbow of animals right here in the park! Learn about the National Zoo’s most colorful critters while singing songs and making crafts. We’re painting the park red so there’s no need to be blue. Make your friends green with envy by registering for this program. Now orange you glad you’re a FONZ member!

Animal Opposites

In this class we'll compare big and small animals, prickly and smooth animals, fast and slow animals, animals that are diurnal with those that are nocturnal, to understand how different characteristics help animals survive.
