Preschool classes invite adults and young children (ages 2-3) to discover the National Zoo together. All children must be accompanied by an adult who is prepared to take part in the activities. For everyone's safety and enjoyment, unregistered children (including siblings) may not attend, with the exception of infants who are not yet crawling.
Classes use crafts, science activities, music, and the Zoo's animal collection to help your child learn about environmental conservation and life science while building important developmental and social skills. There is no direct animal contact during classes.
Weekday class series meet once a week for 5 weeks. Weekend family programs are single class offerings. All children must be at least 2 years old by the date of the first class session to attend.
Discover the Zoo in your own backyard this spring! Each week, we will explore a different animal classification and learn about a new animal friend that makes its home in the same place we do! Meet the neighbors on this backyard safari!
Classes meet as Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday sessions.
Celebrate Mother's Day at the Zoo and make a special gift for the mom in your life! We'll visit some favorite Zoo mothers and babies and learn about the extraordinary ways animals keep their babies safe.
The weather's warming up, so let’s cool down with some of the Zoo's cold-blooded critters! The frogs and turtles of the Reptile Discovery Center are ready to help you leap into learning. Dive in and find out why it’s so cool to be cold!
Curious George is a curious little monkey who loves to explore, just like the monkeys in the Small Mammal House. We'll learn about some of their special features that help them make mischief, then put on our yellow hats and pay a visit to some of our favorite pint-sized primates! (Note: this class was also offered in March 2015.)
Join us again for more Curious George-themed fun! This time, George introduces us to the largest members of his primate family: the Great Apes! Take a peek at George's family album as we explore the amazing adaptations of orangutans and gorillas, then swing on down to the Great Ape House together!
