CRC Education Teacher Fellowship

The Education Office at the Zoo's Conservation and Research Center (CRC) in Front Royal, Virginia, offers a Teacher Fellowship to give teachers an advanced opportunity to study at one of the world's premier research institutions.
The fellowship is modeled after our Research Internship Program. However, teachers accepted into the program apply their learning experience to developing lesson plans activities to use with their students.
During the eight- to 12-week summer fellowship, awardees will have the opportunity to work with CRC education staff to develop and implement science education programs for K-12 teachers and students. Activities range from assisting with summer training workshops, leading outreach programs, editing activities and lesson plans and conducting field work for the Biodiversity Monitoring Program.
In addition, awardees will be encouraged to conduct a special project that will allow them to pursue their own interests which integrate their fellowship experience into their teaching. Awardees will have the opportunity to meet with and learn from staff scientists and participate in special programs and lectures open to staff.
Term of Appointment
Awardees can begin their eight- to 12-week fellowship any time after June 1.
Stipend
Awardees will receive a stipend of $550 per month to cover basic living expenses. Note: Due to funding constraints, the National Zoo is not able to offer a stipend for teacher fellowships offered in summer 2007. Applications are still being accepted for an unpaid fellowship experience, and will still include housing at CRC, as indicated below.

Housing is provided at the CRC campus in Front Royal, Virginia.
