Organized by Friends of the National Zoo, the Science Fair is part of the Zoo’s ongoing commitment to education. About 20 seventh-grade students from Jefferson Middle School and Capital City Public Charter School will exhibit their projects, which are based on the National Zoo’s research, animals and conservation efforts. The event will take place in the Amazonia Science Gallery and is free and open to the public between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Graduate student Clark Rushing and Postdoctoral Research Associate Marietta Dindo worked with both schools to guide the students in choosing a project topic, using the scientific method in their work and presenting their research. Four National Zoo scientists and staff members will judge the projects for creativity, relevance to the National Zoo’s mission and the use of the scientific method. Judges will award prizes to the top two projects and to their favorites.
