Conservation Biology at the National Zoo
A Science Plan: 2006–2016

Mission

We conduct research to aid in the survival or recovery of species and their habitats, and to ensure the health and well-being of animals in captivity and in the wild.

Vision

By 2016, our excellence and leadership in zoo and conservation science, and our science-based approach to animal management and public education will distinguish us as the Nation’s Zoo.

Our scientists will be respected for conducting world-class research, for pioneering science-based solutions to stem the loss of biodiversity, for aiding in the survival or recovery of species and their habitats; and for building international capacity in conservation biology.
