As specialists in zoological medicine, Zoo veterinarians participate in clinical and conservation research. Studies by Department of Animal Health veterinarians are published in major veterinary medical journals, presented at national conferences, and discussed with colleagues, allowing other veterinarians to learn from the findings of the Zoo's veterinarians.
The clinical team scientifically investigates disease syndromes in the broad range of species under our care. Clinical trials are conducted and the responses are documented. Clinical research allows improvements to be made in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques for zoo animals.
Additionally, Zoo veterinarians collaborate with other scientists at the Zoo and around the world to research various aspects of conservation medicine.
