Make a Difference

First-graders from Stevens Elementary School shout excited questions to a volunteer interpreter as they watch Shanthi, one of the Zoo’s three Asian elephants, carry a 600-pound tire across her yard.  Little do the children know that scores of our keepers and scientists are working behind the scenes and around the world to save this endangered species.   This scenario reflects what happens at the National Zoo each and every day. We save species.  We do this through our world-renowned research and animal-breeding programs, our education of international scientists and students, and by inspiring Zoo visitors to act. Your support allows us to help save animals and make memories for millions of children who visit the National Zoo.

Individuals and Families

An easy way to contribute directly to ongoing Zoo renewal, conservation, and education programs is to make a donation. Donating is a rewarding way to support Zoo animals and programs. You may also be able to donate through your employer’s workplace giving campaign or matching gift program.

Leadership Gifts

Leadership gifts of $10,000 or more have an immediate impact on our ability to carry out our mission:  they pay for critical animal tracking equipment, specialized veterinarian and keeper tools, unanticipated animal care needs, and special student-education opportunities. They help inspire others to support the Zoo as well.

Champions for Conservation

To honor the dedication of individuals committed to the mission and work of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, we have created the Champions for Conservation. This exclusive group of donors makes an annual contribution of $25,000 or more, providing critically needed support to the programs of the National Zoo and SCBI, and serve as advocates within their communities on our behalf.

Circle of Life Society

The Circle of Life Society at the National Zoo was established to recognize individuals who provide support for the Zoo and SCBI with a planned gift. Consider leaving a lasting legacy and providing critical support by naming the Zoo a beneficiary of a will, trust, retirement plan, or life insurance policy or by establishing a charitable gift annuity.

Animal-Centered Programs

Special fundraising initiatives that contribute to animal care, habitat improvement, and research programs at the Zoo also provide a way to recognize a special occasion or send a unique gift to a loved one.

There are many ways for private corporations to support the National Zoo. Our corporate partners sponsor exhibits that delight our visitors, research and conservation programs around the world, and events here at the Zoo such as Zoofari and Boo at the Zoo.
Corporate partnerships give companies the opportunity to showcase their commitment to the Washington community, to species that reside in the company’s home region, and to species and habitats around the world.
