Bring Back Bison

Let's bring bison back to our Zoo!

Cheetah

Regal and once deified, the cheetah now faces an uncertain future. Once numbering over 100,000, there are only an estimated 7,500 to 10,000 cheetahs left in the plains of Africa today.

The National Zoo has contributed to cheetah conservation through research in cheetah reproduction and pioneered methods of assisted reproduction. There is still much to be learned and done to ensure the survival of the fastest land animal on earth.

Adopt a cheetah, celebrate the cubs at the Zoo's Virginia campus, and help support conservation efforts at both the National Zoo's D.C. campus and the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, Virginia.
