Cheetah Conservation Station
We are not accepting applications for this program at this time.
Cheetah Conservation Station (CCS) interpreters share their knowledge of cheetah ecology and conservation with Zoo visitors. Interpreters have a display cart with objects illustrating some of the physical characteristics of cheetahs as well as aspects of their ecology and behavior. For example, a cleated sports shoe helps demonstrate how cheetahs use their claws for traction while running.
Interpreters use a microphone to narrate as Zoo staff provide animal care and enrichment activities in the exhibit yards or simply to reach more people when the Zoo is crowded.
Special qualifications: A strong interest in cheetahs, a desire and ability to talk with a wide variety of people, willingness and ability to speak to crowds with a microphone. CCS volunteers also must be able to be outdoors in a variety of Washington weather conditions.
Time commitment: Three three-hour shifts a month from April through mid-November for a year, monthly meetings, and support of exhibit-related special events. The program may be extended if the weather is good.
Age requirement: You must be at least 18 years old to apply.
Training: Training will not be conducted in 2012.
