Elephant House

We are not accepting applications for this program at this time.

Elephant House interpreters learn the natural history, conservation status, and Zoo management of Asian elephants. They share this information with visitors in a largely conversational manner. Skulls and teeth are among the fascinating objects used by large mammal interpreters to increase visitor knowledge and appreciation of these megavertebrates.

After a year in this program, volunteers may apply for open positions as Elephant Demonstration Narrators. These positions require microphone skills and the flexibility to follow and narrate live activity.

Special qualifications: A strong interest in the exhibit species, a desire and ability to talk with a wide variety of people, and a tolerance for being outdoors in the extremes of Washington’s summer.

Time commitment: Three three-hour shifts a month for a year, monthly meetings, and support of exhibit-related special events.

Age requirement: You must be at least 18 years old to apply.

Training: Training will not be scheduled for 2012.
