Zoo Guides

Zoo Guide volunteers lead tours for groups of all ages. Three types of tours are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday mornings. The Highlights Tour takes visitors to many of the major sites in the Zoo, ending at the Seal/Sea Lion area or the Amazonia exhibit. The Animal Coverings Tour, for children ages four to seven and their parents, has both classroom and in-Zoo components that explore lizard skins, turtle shells, feathers, and pelts. The Brownie Tour is a special badge-earning program for local Brownie Scout troops.

When no tours are scheduled, Zoo Guides act as interpreters for a variety of outdoor areas around the Zoo. Because of the breadth of their knowledge, they may also be asked to lead special-request tours.

Special qualifications: A broad interest in the Zoo and its mission, the interest and ability to manage groups, and a willingness to walk the Zoo for two hours at a time year-round.
