Special Events

Special Events volunteers are the foundation of the many entertaining events that take place on Zoo grounds. As former FONZ Executive Director Clint Fields was fond of saying, "We couldn’t do it without you."

Events such as Easter Monday: Celebrating the African American Family, Bird Fest, ZooFari, and Boo at the Zoo are offered for public education, membership appreciation, fundraising, or all three. Duties vary widely and might include setting up before the event, assisting with arts and crafts, monitoring an activity, or dressing up as a panda and passing out pins! Events take place throughout the year, but spring and fall are particularly busy seasons.

Special qualifications: Good health, stamina, and the ability to work outside in all weather. People skills are necessary if you want to work with visitors during an event.

Time commitment: Times and days vary with the event.

Training: One evening session and/or on the job.
