All of the 2013 Senior Class Aide positions have been filled. Please check back later for other volunteer opportunities!
Registration to be a junior or senior class aide opens on March 5, 2013 at 7 p.m.
This program provides an opportunity for older teens to demonstrate leadership, organization, and interpersonal skills. One Senior Class Aide will be assigned to each teacher to help supervise junior class aides, assist the teacher with lesson plans, and interact with children, parents, and staff.
Age requirement: Teens must be 16 years old before their first scheduled shift to register as a Senior Class Aide. Additionally, if you are 16, you are required to register as a Senior Class Aide rather than a Junior Class Aide.
Please note: If you will turn 18 before June 1, 2013 you are not eligible to volunteer in the teen Class Aide program. You are welcome to apply for openings in our adult programs. Please check our website for programs that are currently recruiting byclicking here.
Special qualifications: Volunteers in this program must be interested in working with children in kindergarten through seventh grade, have good communication skills, imagination, and a sense of humor, be flexible, and be willing to walk around the Zoo in Washington's summer weather.
Time commitment: Senior Class Aides are required to work for 3 full weeks (Monday through Friday), but may opt to volunteer for up to four weeks. Camp runs from from late June to mid-August, with a seven-hour shift per day; a minimum of 35 hours per week.
Training: June 8, 2013. Training is mandatory for all new Senior Class Aides.
