Behavior Watch

Behavior Watch volunteers studying animal behavior are a vital element of research at the National Zoo. In recent years, FONZ volunteers have contributed thousands of hours to collect data on a wide variety of species from cheetahs to flamingos.

Special qualifications: A willingness to conduct observations on a regular basis—at all hours in all weather conditions—for a study that may last several months. Reliability is a must!

Time commitment: This will depend on the specific project. It may be a one-time shift, or a recurring shift—once a week for the duration of a watch.

Age requirement: You must be at least 18 years old to apply.
