Education Programs Intern

The FONZ Education Programs Office at the Smithsonian National Zoo’s Washington, DC campus seeks an intern to work with projects, program planning, and administration for the numerous programs of the office: classes, camps, birthday parties, and more.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for reporting to the education office to assist staff with special projects and programmatic work.

Required Qualifications

  • Student or recent graduate with a background in education. (Preferably science, conservation education, or informal/museum education.)
  • Strong desire to work Zoo education specialists on exciting programs.
  • Reliable and able to meet needed availability requirements.
  • Outgoing personality and motivation to seek new learning opportunities.

Stipend

This is an unpaid position and no stipend is offered.  FONZ does not pay for transportation cost to the National Zoo.

This internship provides valuable program planning experience and will add value to resume as intern applies for jobs in the future.

FONZ is willing to work with an intern's school to obtain credit hours for internship, but it is the intern's responsibility to verify availability through their school.

Dates and Hours

The intern will work about 20 hours per week for the Education Programs Office. Some work may be done from outside the office.

Time Commitment

Six to twelve week commitment during the school year.
