How Do You Zoo? Summer Program Intern

The Department of Education and Volunteer Services of Friends of the National Zoo is seeking an intern to coordinate the How Do You Zoo? summer program.

Job Description

  • Supervise teen volunteers and coordinate the summer program in a hands-on children's exhibit
  • Assist in the supervision of elementary-school-age program participants
  • Assist in training teen volunteers
  • Narrate a short slide presentation on zoo careers from script as part of the daily program
  • Maintain volunteer records
  • Maintain How Do You Zoo? teen volunteer web page
  • Assess volunteer performance
  • Maintain program statistics
  • Assist in maintaining program materials and exhibit components
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Requirements and Abilities

  • Interest in the fields of education and zoology
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Computer skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Able to work independently
  • Enjoy working with teenagers and elementary-school-age children
  • College student who has completed a minimum of one year of college or teacher preferred
