MAB Education Intern

Project Description

The National Zoo's Monitoring and Assessment of Biodiversity Program (MAB) works nationally and internationally with governments, industries, academia, nongovernmental organizations, local communities, and others to address biodiversity research and monitoring challenges related to conservation. Through an integrated approach of research and training, MAB provides scientific information and builds in-country capacity to foster the sustainable use of natural resources. MAB's mission is to promote the conservation of biological diversity.

Duties and Responsibilities

As an intern, you will assess the availability and needs of biodiversity education at various levels and help us to re-shape our Professional Training Programs. You will review participant surveys to identify several key topics for future courses. Next, you will search out current training courses that have similar themes. Finally, you will propose course topics, locations, and budgets for future years.

Desired Qualifications and Abilities

We are looking for a personable and well-organized student to interact with a variety of international scientists. Applicants should be able to devote at least two days per week to this program for three to six months.

Term of Appointment

This is an ongoing project. Interns may start at any time and work for three to six months, as available.

Stipend

Though this is an unpaid internship, you will benefit greatly from being a part of our program. You will be welcomed into an inviting atmosphere where you will have a wonderful learning experience. You will receive benefits of being an intern at the Smithsonian such as store discounts and free IMAX films.
