Companies and organizations that make an unrestricted donation to the National Zoo are invited to co-host a special event at one of the Zoo’s various event sites. Special events include picnics, evening receptions, dinners, or similar activities that are in accordance with Smithsonian policies and guidelines.
Social events of a personal nature (weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.) as well as fundraising, product marketing, religious, and political functions are not permitted.
Donations are tax-deductible and do not include any administrative fees or direct event costs such as catering, tents, or additional expenses. Donations support the Zoo’s important wildlife conservation, science, and public education programs.
Upon request, the Zoo will provide a list of caterers and vendors that are familiar with the Zoo’s procedures and guidelines. Organizations may also select a vendor of choice but the Zoo retains the right of final approval. Alcohol is permitted at special events, however smoking is prohibited on Zoo property.
