October 4–5, 2008
10 a.m.–3 p.m.
Bring your family for a day of fun, tours, and activities at the National Zoo's Conservation and Research Center (CRC) in Front Royal, Virginia. This is the only weekend of the year when you have an opportunity to visit this normally closed campus. Lunch and beverages will be available for purchase, and there will be live music and hay rides throughout the day.
Endangered Species
Come see clouded leopards, red pandas, Bali mynahs, and other endangered mammals and birds. Special guided tours will highlight our animal breeding programs and take visitors through the veterinary hospital. Meet scientists and keepers and explore the tools and technology used to understand animals and their habitats.
A Step Back in Time
When this land was operated as a U.S. Cavalry Remount Depot, the property included a racetrack where soldiers gathered. Now a footpath, the track offers a panoramic view of the property. A horse cemetery borders the racetrack, where Jeff and Kidron, General John J. Pershing's two favorite mounts, are buried.
