Raise your glass to conservation! Join FONZ at our annual beer festival, where you'll sample beers from more than 60 craft breweries. Guests will also enjoy live entertainment, lawn games, animal demonstrations, and food trucks. Proceeds benefit animal care and conservation at Smithsonian's National Zoo. So raise your glass and take a sip for the animals!

Ticket Information

General Admission Ticket

$50 FONZ members | $65 nonmembers

Includes access to the main event, a commemorative mug, and free soda and water.

FONZ members may purchase up to four tickets at the member price. Sober driver tickets are also available for $30. Sober drivers will not receive a commemorative mug and will not be served beer. All but $25 of your ticket price is tax-deductible.

Early Admission

$70 FONZ members | $85 nonmembers

Ticket holders may access the general event area one hour before it opens to the general public, from 5-6 p.m. VIP ticketholders receive this benefit as part of their ticket price. Don’t delay, these tickets are limited.

Brew at the Zoo Beer Naming Contest

Drink Beer, Save Wildlife

Friends of the National Zoo is giving away two general admission tickets to Brew at the Zoo 2014! To score these sweet tickets, we want you to put on your creative hats and celebrate what Brew at the Zoo is all about: wildlife and beer!

Here are the Details

Create a wildlife or conservation-themed beer name for a special brew generously donated by Port City Brewing Company! The name of the beer should incorporate animals we have at the Smithsonian's National Zoo. Port City Brewing Company will design a special beer tap handle for the brew to commemorate your creative genius and the winner will also win two free tickets to Brew at the Zoo! Check out our National Zoo species list and photos on our Facebook page for inspiration!

We'll debut the newly named Port City Brewing Company beer for the night at Brew at the Zoo! Guests may have the chance to sample the beer that you named and you'll get to have an amazing time on us!

Contest Rules

To enter, tweet your inventive beer name to @FonzNationalZoo using the hashtag #brewzoo.

You must be 21+ to attend and enter the contest. Contest begins June 10. On Friday, June 27 the top five names will be revealed on FONZ's Twitter and Facebook page and the public will be asked to vote on their favorite! The winner of the public vote on FONZ's Facebook and Twitter accounts will be revealed on Friday, July 11! (Please note if a specific beer name is entered by multiple people, only the first person to enter that name will be considered for the contest.)

The winner will be contacted by Twitter's Direct Message and ticket arrangements
will be made.

Parking & Transportation

FONZ encourages you to take public transportation and drink responsibly. The Zoo's Connecticut Avenue entrance is between the Red Line's Cleveland Park and Woodley Park Metro stops. Parking available for a fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Zoo be open?

Outside the event area, the buildings will be open until 6 p.m. and the grounds will be open until 8 p.m. The buildings in the event area will be closed.

Will there be animals at the event?

There will be scheduled animal demonstrations taking place in both the General Event Area and the VIP area. Great Cats Circle will be open until 8:30 p.m., with the lions and tigers out in the yards.

Please remember the welfare of the animal is our priority, so animal demonstrations may be canceled if it is in the best interest of the animal.

What is an Early Admission Ticket?

Beat the lines! For an additional $20 early admission and VIP ticket holders will be given access to the general event site an hour earlier.

What is a "Sober Driver" ticket?

Sober Driver tickets for designated drivers are available . Tickets are limited and may sell out prior to the event date. Designated drivers must be 21-and-over. Designated drivers will not receive a complimentary mug, will not be allowed to consume alcohol, and will not be permitted in the VIP Brew Pub. All ticket holders will receive complimentary soda and water.

Are concessions available?

Yes, food will be available for purchase. There will be a several food trucks. Credit cards are accepted at many, but not all of the food trucks. An ATM is located inside the Zoo at the Visitor Center. A second ATM is located in the VIP area inside the Mane Grill. You must have a VIP ticket to use this ATM.

Complimentary soda and water will be available for all ticket holders.

Will the carousel be operating?

Yes, the carousel will be running. Rides cost $3 and tickets can be purchased at the carousel.

Is there a charge for parking?

Yes, the standard rate of $22 will be charged for parking.

Friends of the National Zoo encourages you to use public transportation and drink responsibly. To visit the Zoo by Metro, take the Red Line to the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan stop or the Cleveland Park stop. The Zoo entrance lies halfway between these stops, and both are a short walk from the Zoo.

Do I need photo ID?

Yes, photo ID is required. Guests and designated drivers must be 21-and-over. Individuals under 21 will not be admitted into the event site. Vertical IDs will not be accepted.

Can I receive a refund?

No, ticket sales are final. No refunds or exchanges. The event will be held rain or shine.

What methods of payment will be accepted at the event?

Credit cards are accepted at many but not all of the food trucks. An ATM is located inside the Zoo at the Visitor Center. A second ATM is located in the VIP area inside the Mane Grill. You must have a VIP ticket to use this ATM.

Can I buy Group Tickets?

Brew at the Zoo is a fundraising event and we do not offer group ticket rates. FONZ members may purchase up to four tickets at the member price. Please email Pam Bucklinger. to learn more about our corporate or group packages.

Where can I find out where my favorite brewery will be located at the event?

We will e-mail a Brew at the Zoo map a few days before the event.

Brew Games

Take a chance and win a prize! We will have a prize wheel at the event site. For one dollar, spin for a chance to win fun Brew at the Zoo prizes!
Complimentary lawn games include Brew at the Zoo Corn Hole.

Will there be Brew at the Zoo Merchandise?

T-shirts and other Brew at the Zoo merchandise will be available at a merchandise table in the event area.

Where is the Event Located in the Zoo?

Brew at the Zoo will be located in the lower portion of the Zoo by Lion/Tiger Hill. Lion/Tiger Hill is about a 10 minute walk from the top of the zoo. There will be one registration location by Lemur Island and the Carousel. Please note there will not be a registration location at the bottom of the zoo.
